HANDLING STRESS

You can handle stress the easy way

Every morning, Sarah would wake up in a blind panic, wondering how on earth she was gong to get through the day. She was going crazy with stress. She was tired all the time, nervous and panicky, all from the intolerable pressure she was under. She was a senior executive in an extremely responsible position with a world famous designer label where she constantly had to deal with demanding VIP customers and cater to their every whim.

When I first met Sarah and realised how stressed she was, I was sure that the technique I’d been teaching for many years would be a help to her. When I told her about it she was sceptical at first but finally, as things went from bad to worse, she agreed to accept my help, acknowledging that she would try anything.

The Radiance Technique® Authentic Reiki® (also known as TRT®) is an easy to learn, self help energy system that works wonders with stress. There are twelve positions for placing your hands on the body and I taught Sarah how to do these for herself each morning on waking. I also gave her the four “attunements” or “activations” that actually brought alive the healing energy in her hands. She never thought she would find the time to fit this into her hectic days. However, she managed and, as a result, she found she was less anxious and felt calmer. When I first came across it and read the definitive book on the subject ‘The Reiki Factor in the Radiance Technique®’ by Dr Barbara Ray, I knew immediately that I wanted to be in a position to pass on this ancient healing system to others. So I studied with Radiant Stress Management International Inc in Switzerland and Florida and, over the years, I have reached the sixth out of the seven levels. I teach others how to handle stress and bring balance and harmony to their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Hundreds of people have studied with me over the years, with ages ranging from three to ninety-three.

One of my students was the editor of a world famous fashion magazine, constantly stressed with jetting between London and New York. He learned to deal with this by the simple “hands-on” approach of The Radiance Technique®. Unemployed? Stressed? A new way of dealing with it

“I’ve got these splitting headaches!” Sally said. “It’s only since I lost my job last month but I’m so worried - I’ve got a mortgage, car loan, overdraft – the lot!” So I showed Sally a simple awareness exercise which, when practiced regularly, helps reduce stress levels. She sat upright in a chair, feet flat on the floor, closed her eyes and listened to my voice, as I slowly talked her through the exercise. Two minutes later, she opened her eyes and was surprised at the brightness of colors she saw and how calm she felt.

Sally has now practiced The Awareness Exercise at least twice every day and her stress-induced headaches have become a rarity. As negative stress is fear induced, I encouraged Sally to think of F.E.A.R as False Evidence Appearing Real. That is to say it is a feeling of some dread possibility that may actually never materialize. The result was that Sally began to focus on the possibility of the job she wanted, rather than the possibility of not getting it.

I also pointed out to Sally how shallow her breathing was; this meant that, instead of being healthily stimulated by an ideal oxygen flow, her body was barely ticking over. Also, lack of proper breath intake meant that her voice was unsupported and sounded weak, indicating a lack of confidence – not helpful at a job interview.
